My Machine Gun Cries For Home

about

The oldest written track on this album, I don't remember how many years ago I wrote this, but it preceded all the other tracks by at least a year.

When I wrote this the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were still going on, so I had written a song about a dying soldier, who's gun is sad without the touch of its owner, while the man in his fading state of consciousness he is haunted by the ghost of a woman who he used to know, calling him to come over to the other side, and he is no longer afraid of death, so he comes to embrace it for he knows that his soul is beyond the realm of his earthly body.

It is dark and surreal, though I originally wanted this to be a country song, I ended up speeding up the pace of the chord progression and playing it on my beat up flea market 12 string instead of my usual acoustic.

lyrics

Oh my machine gun cries for home
Under a heavy sagging sky
That folds over like a listing ship
Oh and my machine gun
Cries for her prince
She cries for my blistered fingers
To caress her tarnished steel
She cries an ocean
For all the people
That she has missed
Now my girl
Cries from beyond the grave
She wants to wear the dress
That burns all around her
She wants to turn the rivers into
Veins of gold
She wants the taste of
A dead man's kiss
She wants the taste of
A vulture's kill
She wants to see my face again
And she will not
Let me go
No she will not
Let me go
Now I am made of wonder
No longer am I a man of this earth
No longer do I fear Gabriel
Nor his horn
No longer am I trapped within a brittle skull
I tread the path where
No creature would dare to go
