The Olive Branch (Recorder Demo)

This is a song I wrote about war, not any war in particular, or a particular "side" in a particular conflict, but rather it is about the meaningless of war altogether. It is something that I wrote down after months of witnessing the inhumanity of war and then rushed to practice and get a barebones demo with my handheld recorder.

The character in the song sees the insanity of the situation he is in and more or less thinks "fuck this" and does something that most people would believe is insane, but is the only truly sane thing to do in war, which is to put down your gun and walk to the other side in order to convince them to do the same without fear of death or torture.

I will be very clear here, this is not a song about surrender, it is about the futility of conflict and how ideology and belief itself divides us from each other as human beings. Nations and religions are all illusory concepts which exist to divide us from one another and to dehumanize us into seeing the world as "us vs them" as a form of service to evil. It is what we believe that often imprisons us, until we are willing to give up our beliefs.
