about

I am not proud of these lyrics, they're cheesy, but then again this song is fun to play, and I kept it on this album since it makes fun of the doom and gloom of the rest of the record. This is also the only song where I played the main part on an electric guitar instead of an acoustic guitar, mainly due to the pacing and general feel of the song. It reminded me of punk/deathrock, so I decided to play it directly into my mic using loads of spring reverb and in Mono.

I wrote this song based on a really messed up dream I had, where I was in a dungeon, and there were skeletons, and there was this woman and there was music playing. I remember writing it around late October/early November of 2013.

Anyway, when I went to write this, I wrote this song mostly about combat, and the gamble with death that war represents, but it is not exclusively about war, it is about tempting fate, thrill-seeking, courting destruction, that sort of stuff.

lyrics

On a moonlit night
Reflecting off the snow
She was quite a sight to bestow
She sat there in the ashes
Of a burned down building frame
Wearing sadness like a necklace
That hung with heavy shame
And I was sad to come here
To see her in the snow
All those left behind me
And their families now widowed
I put my tommy gun aside to join her
Waiting by the gates of hell
If it wasn't for my weakened heart
I wouldn't have fallen for her spell
I heard gunfire in the distance
And the scuffle that I knew
Would bring the rest to take her
And everything we knew
I'll follow you through sewers
And catacombs lined with skulls
Like the ones on your dress
Oh you know the ones I know
I'll dance on the corpses in the cemetary
Further down the road
And when I dance with you
Let us dance real slow
And though I wont kiss you yet
Someday I won't hold back
For now I'm going to cheat you
Every time I get attacked
I can see you in the distance
I can see your red bow
Tangled in the branches
Just beneath a roosting crow
Flirting in the graveyard
With the moon shining a halo
Some day I'll settle down with you
And run a funeral home
Have some stillborn children
And dead flowers by the window
And when I make love to you
One last time
And take my final breath
I'll know just what it means
To have lost the game with death
